    Installing a gate opener

Putting an opener at our new place this weekend. Looks to be a simple enough process but I am confused on what battery to get. The box and online say any car/boat/ lawn mower battery in a weatherproof case. Mighty mule also sells a "deer feeder" battery but it doesn't list my model opener. Would the deer feeder style work? That seems to be the easiest solution and just put it in an ammo can. I just think that a battery box on the ground will be tempting for country kids.....

Some deer feeders or 6 volt and most gate openers are 12 volt. As long as you match voltage you should be ok. It is just a matter of how much you want to pay and often you want to replace them when gate does not work. Are you adding solar panel? I would.

      Installing a gate opener

The gate has 110 charger have plug by gate
So was just going to go easy.

Just couldn't think of a way to "hide" the bigger battery. So guess I will just go with feeder battery and can.

I have a mighty mile 350 I just bought a deep cycle marine battery in a battery box. Smaller battery may not allow enough juice if it gets a lot of usage and not enough charging

How did you secure the battery box? Or no worries about kids/ theft?

my box and deep cycle battery is mounted on the fence ( wooden fence.) not sure a feeder battery would provide enough juice to power if the 110v was down. but hey its worth a try. I have had to replace my opener once its the mule 350... it works fine just had the circuit board blown for some reason , maybe water... $350 vs $1000 or more for different brands, my gate is less then 100# when I build a new gate might upgrade the opener. I have 2 other fiends that have the nicer expensive openers... they have to be repaired more often then ours... and your right on the repair issue.. I found 2 places in Houston that repair them... $150 -$200 callout plus parts...

                          Very smart move...
I would lean toward an Apollo (Nice) - but I'm a little partial since I sell them.

I have access to any brand I would want to sell, but I have had extremely good reliability from the Apollo line and chose to sell them exclusively.
