    Building new tripod feeder

I am planning to build a new tripod feeder with a 55 gallon drum. I'm looking for ideas on a folding tripod setup. I would rather fold it up than have to take the legs of to transport our move. Any info would be great.

Look at the type of hinge they use on boat to Unger to get a boat and trailer to fit in a storage unit. It's basically a heavy duty door hinge on both sides with a removable pin on one of the sides

Why not utilize a receiver type set up. I believe I used 2" square tube with 1 3/4 insert. This allowed the two sections to connect. I also drilled a hole, welded a nut with bolt for a set screw. It works like a charm for transportation.

I did the exact same thing on mine. Use a cage if it's a timed unit or make a self feeder. No need for super long legs....my legs were just over 4' long in the feeder in my avatar. Set screw bolt definitely stiffens it up and makes it stout.

My issue with the short legs is the cows. I have had heck with cows destroying my feeders. I could put pens around them but then the hogs don't come around. That's why I want to make them taller and be able to anchor the legs down so the cows can't knock them over. Do y'all have any pictures of the boat hinge that you speak of?

I buy the Moultire feeder brackets after the season for around $25.00, everlast timer after season for $64.99, feeder funnel for around. $20, feeder lid around $20, 12 volt solar panel and 12 volt battery around $45 and 3 hurricane fence poles that are 7.5 foot.

Mount brackets lower than I did to get extra height.

For moving get a t-post puller and just slide the legs off load it on a trailer and slide legs back on.

I get my barrels from a honey place on I-10 for $20 or sometimes free.

Have about $220 or $230 in each setup if I wait till end of season and get the stuff on sale.

So you want the legs to stay attached to the drum during transport? I think that would make it pretty heavy unless you have 2 people and it would take up more space when hauling. Do you want to do this mainly to make it easier to stand up so the legs dont fall off or do you want it more heavy duty, what is your primary goal?

Just put the feeder on the edge of the feed pen instead of in the middle, keeps cows off the feeder and there is plenty of corn outside of the feed pen to keep the pigs around. Plus the deer get to feed without the pig competition, win-win-win.
