I have cooked a few skulls. Sometimes I use plain water with nothing added and sometimes I add sal soda (sodium carbonate.) It does a good job of degreasing and removing meat but it always leaves a white chalky residue on my skulls. Some of it comes off if I scrape it with a toothpick or flathead screwdriver.
Does anybody else add sodium carbonate to the water? I'm I using too much sal soda?

Sika I used to use the sal soda as well but had the same issues as you and I wasn’t using very much. My last couple I just did a couple of simmers with dawn then the last run i added about 1/8 cup of tide laundry soap and it has worked well. Will grab some pics of the one I am finishing up this weekend
