The girlfriend got her first deer, a young axis spike, this past January. We took the hide to the taxidermist to be tanned and hang on the wall. I played off keeping he skull...she thinks it got tossed. Finally got the euro back from the taxi.
Desk/shelf mount
Texas outline is cut from 3/16" plate...old scrap...lots of pitting and character. I cleaned it up a little bit then gave it a coat of Ospho over night. Cleaned it up some more and gave it some luster without taking all the "character" out of it. Glued a piece of foam to the bottom for non-scratching/non-slipping properties.
The "1" is made from two pieces of used horseshoes.
The hanger is another used horseshoe with the nails still in it. I welded it to the top of the "1". The old nail seems perfect as a stop...for keeping the skull in the right place.
The whole thing got two coats of triple thick clear glaze.
