    Electric power pole

Power poles are a sweet shallow water anchor system. Power poles are regularly ran by hydraulics which makes them expensive(about $2000). I did some searching to see if anybody had made one cheaper and I saw one guy on YouTube who made one for $700. Cheaper than $2000 but still doesn't seem cheap enough to me. You can buy an electric actuator to replace the hydraulics for around $60 and it's rated for 200lb.

My biggest obstacle right now is will a 200lb rating be enough to go into the mud? What do you guys think?

That is going to depend on the bottom of where you are at. I have thought about using a mighty mule gate opener to make one before.

In a sense I could see it working fine in mud and sand. I could even see it fine in rocks, but not on a solid rock bottom. The other thing I'm trying to figure out is does it break once it hits the 200lb force or does it just stop.

Not sure about the rating but I do know the original power poles didn't really have enough "umph" for harder bottoms. We have one of the originals and sometimes we'll have to step on the power pole to help it really dig in.

200 lb force might be enough if you're able to give it a little help.

Check min Kota anchor pole. I know it runs on electricity. Their website might have something about the force your looking for.

You can get Sportsman 2's for $1295 from Hydrilla Gear all day long. I have duals on my BassCat and they get abused. Honestly, the mount probably takes more abuse than the actual poles, and the issue you may into is holding power. With electric, you will have to push current the whole time to maintain contact. With the hydraulic power, the system is pressurized and the power kicks off. 1 long day fishing may murder a battery if it was under load all day, not to mention having an extra 1 or 2 just for the DIY power pole. Somewhere I read or saw a little bit about the guy that invented them. The first few demos he made supposedly knocked holes in his driveway because of the force they exerted. I know that mine will put enough force down that I have had issues getting them to raise back up. And generally, that is the same times when I wanted more downforce...

It doesn't pull that much current if any at all.

I've seen the talon and it uses a different motor than an actuator.

The more I think about it, 200lbs seems like it should be enough. At least where I fish.

I need a good trolling motor more than I need a fancy anchor system.
