How about another **Mounting Up** Thread

It's been probably over a year since I did one and this one is personal...my own axis buck. Now some of you might know Jetz Taxidermy spits out great forms. I went into his shop and at the time, he was working on a new axis pose that was just too cool.

Now I've already done a little bit of work to it but not much. As you can see, I've hollowed out part of the wall pedestal. Much like the **Mounting Up**fighting whitetail bucks thread.

    So, let's get started!

The oilfield kept me away from the casa too long! Didn't want to get pipe dope on my mounts!

Alright I mixed together my rock cocktail and kneaded until thoroughly mixed.

And once I found the consistency I liked, I rubbed it into place.

As it starts to set up, I'll start cutting in crack lines to define the look.

Good thread. I've never mounted a pedestal mount but I would have thought you finished the back after it was mounted up...

Not sure about the pose...... I really like the head and neck position but just not sure about the back side?? It for sure will show the beauty of the axis cape. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

Yes and in 99% of the time you do. When using this wet rock mixture however, it's so much easier to do when you don't have to worry about getting it in the hair of the cape. We will get to that later when the cape is going on because there might be spots where the cape was cut short and I'll need to add more rock mixture to blend that transition line.

Alright so as its drying into place I've been adding some detail cutting in cracks and overlays.

The more it dries, the finer the crack lines I'll be able to make.
