Can someone explain filling the tank with water/draining process for me on these things? I'm assuming you fill/drain the pit in order to rid the former gas, so you don't go KABOOM when you start working on the pit. But how do you know when it's right? When enough is enough..

That pit is going to be bad a. I'm going to follow this one. Looks good so far!

That's a good idea about welding the hinges and flat bar before completely cutting out the doors. Never thought about that before and will take that advise and use it when I build me a pit this coming year hopefully!

                  Some Progress

Well not much progress with the holidays and a weekend trip to New Orleans for a bachelor party but I have got the tank 80% strapped and the doors are 100% strapped. I really need to make one more trip to the metal shop (but they have been closed for holidays) for the grates (square tube & expanded metal), the stack (6in pipe), and the plate to separate the firebox. I have the hinges on hand and some angle for the racks to lay on. Hope to get more done this week but have a Dr. appointment tomorrow that will put me out for the day and New Years so I dunno.
