    Concrete sealer on stained floor?

This weekend I acid stained the floor in the gameroom. Got it cleaned and used Behr sealer product. I have put one coat on and it has been 24 hours. I used a paint roller like it suggest and I can clearly see roller marks and murky spots on the floor.

We did the floor in our house years ago and it turned out great, but I am very disappointed with what the gameroom looks like.

Does anyone have any experience with concrete sealers?

What can I do to buff out the roller marks and murky look?

I have not put on a second coat, but I dont think going over it again is going to fix the issue.

I will try to post a pic later.

I really like the stained concrete look, but I have a feeling I am looking at some type of hardwood floor.

When we built our house, we had the contractor stain all of the floors. We don't have any carpet. They did not use any sealer and they were very adamant about not using it. They told me many times to just buff it with a white pad every 6 months or so.

I'm in the Dye & Polish concrete industry, but only in the industrial and big box retail market. Our system is completely different from any residential process, but maybe I can give you my $.02.... Most acid or any residential polishing systems are normally topical and over time will always end up looking terrible (flaking, high traffic areas, color fading...etc). Unfortunately.....the only people that know how to install dye & polish concrete the correct way.....and what I mean by "correct way" is a floor finish that will last for 20 yrs with the proper maintenance, are commercial polishing companies who are extremely expensive when it comes to residential. Most of them won't even show up for small jobs like that.

To answer your question......installing a sealer is never a good idea. I have never looked into the behr stuff, but maybe they require it to keep the stain locked onto the surface of the concrete, but it's always a nightmare. it'll eventually wear away, flake, peel, or whatever. They shouldn't even call it a sealer...sealers need to penetrate the concrete, not act as a guard product that sits on the surface of concrete.

What I would do.....and like i said, I haven't looked into the behr stuff, but I'd rent a floor maintainer at Home Depot and buy different coarse of pads. Run the pads over the floor, starting with the softest coarse, until you can see the roller marks come out. if it comes down to it, buy a 100 or so grit "screen" for the maintainer, but this will most likely remove your stain.

If you're successful with getting the roller marks out, but need to re-seal the floor...then you may look at cutting the seal with water 50-50. instead of using a roller, use a blue microfiber mop and spray the floor with a spray bottle and mop in a figure "8" motion. When spec calls for us to install a final concrete protector product this is what we do to avoid mop/roller marks.

I don't know if these made any sense, but I will happily answer any questions you may have. Good Luck!

        I'm in the residential business.

Our product is acid based and we primarily use wax as our finish coat. Our product resists color fading and is very low maintence!

Behr is trash in our industry. Especially their sealer.
We use a xylol based acrylic sealer that is forgiving and can be corrected very easy similiar to lacquer.

If you can strip that Behr off, go buy some furniture wax, Johnson, Trewax, or Staples. Hand wax and buff like a car as many coats as you like and you'll be pleased!
