    Homemade seeder/road feeder.

So I have always been the one on our place that always plants all of the good plots. Nearly always with little or no help. One of the things I hate is changing implements on the tractor so swapping from the tiller to the seeder is always a pain, especially by myself. I looked into buying a seeder for the mule, but couldn't find any that I thought would work good. So after seeing an old feed hopper from my grandpas old chicken house I had an idea.
I researched some online and found a gadget called a pulse width modulator that could adjust the speed of the deer feeder motor.
My thoughts were to attach the hopper to the underside of the mule bed using two receiver hitches so it would lessen the slack and vibrations and still be easily removable. So I built a frame to hold the hopper and then built the receiver mount.
I didn't take pictures after I primed and painted but it is all welded up an ready to mount. I have a piece of sheet metal to close off the bottom of the hopper that is bent in a C. The top part will seal off the bottom of the hopper and hold the funnel. There will be a slide over the funnel to limit the flow of seed/corn to the spinner plate. The bottom part of the c will hold the motor and spinner.
I should get the funnel tomorrow and be able to cut out the hole for it and mount it, cut the holes and mount the motor, then mount the hopper and wire it all up.
I am going to use alligator clamps to the battery and run some 4 wire trailer wire to the "control box" to the toggle switch and the pulse width modulator. Then wire up the motor and I should be done.
I will post pictures of what I get done tomorrow. Maybe I can finish it this week. I don't have near the skills of a lot of guys on here but I do enjoy a project. This seeder/feeder should be lots heavier built than any store bought one and last for years.

Thanks. I finished up a lid and seed flow control gate and painted it. Should have final assembly done tomorrow. I think it will work as good if not better than any store bought and last way longer. Plus it suits what I want to a T. And I have about $100 total in it. Probably a bit less.

looks good. Good use of old poultry equipment.

I put it to the test this weekend. Spread 900 lbs of seed and fertilizer over 6 different spots. It performed well. But in my opinion there is no new for the speed control unless you want to use it with corn. The seed and fertilizer needs to be spun at the highest setting.

                        That's sweet!
I'm in the same boat and don't want to buy a $200 pull behind spreader, I may have to try and do something similar

Probably have less than $100 and could have saved the $10 on the speed control.

Great job, how does your seed control part work? I have a regular road feeder and tried to use it, but the slide control allows to much seed out especially oat size.
