You can coat the connections with 'liquid electrical tape' sold for the purpose of water proofing connections too. Most times stereos and electronics fail at the connections.

My amp doesn't have connection screws. It came with a wiring harness. I connected the wires together and used the liquid electrical tape that you were talking about.

I built one years ago. Had plans to make another one using different materials to make it much lighter but haven't done so.

I have built too many to count over the last 2 years for friends, family and baseball teams. Do yourself a favor and spend some time at motorboatyourself.com and look at what and how those guys are doing things. Great Forum with reviews on a lot of things and plenty of help over there. You can spend as much or as little as you like. My last build was a camo 100 qt Igloo, 8" camo Bazooka waterproof speakers, big 105 ah battery and 1000 watts of power. I hacked a Harbor Freight little red wagon and attached the chassis to the cooler bottom for offroad use and the size allows for storage at the ballparks. I can easily drop in a soft side cooler if I like.

Looking at all these and a couple of river floats have me wanting to build one. This might be a dumb question but does the cooler radio need an amp? I have a radio, 4 marine speakers, battery, and cooler. Should i buy an amp to install as well? It it worth it? Thanks everybody this thread was very helpful

I don't have a head unit. I plug my phone straight into the amp.

Your head unit should run the 4 marine speakers just fine. I have made a few with just a head unit and it gets plenty load. Always good to have a aux input on the radio so you can use a phone or ipod to play music cause cd's skip a lot in them.

Yeah, it really just depends on how you want to run it. Off a phone or off of a radio. With the input jack, you can do both!

I think its worth it to put an amp on there. It will be much louder and sound a lot cleaner. Plus Its nice to crank it up in open areas
