First knife in a few weeks

First knife in about two months. I took on a consulting job in Midland, I only get home about every two weeks, and this time I had to get in the shop to get some much needed therapy. It’s a full 5/16 thick 5160 8 ½ OAL blade is 3 ¾, maple handle with red liners. Made this one Thursday afternoon, and the sheath on Friday.

I really love that blade profile also, makes capping much easier for me.

Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner, been real busy here in Midland.
First of all I normalize it three times, I do that will all my blades. After the third normalizing cycle, I soak the blade at 1475 for five minutes and quench in canola oil. Temper at 400 degrees for one hour, take out of tempering oven and let it get to room temp and repeat process, for knives like this one 5/16 thick I do three tempering cycles.

I heat treat 1095 almost the same way, except I soak it a bit longer, and I like to brine quench 1095 like I do W-1.
I don't recommend brine quenching 1095 because of the warp or crack factor, Parks # 50 is best canola or motor oil are just too slow. I've worked with 1095 for years and I'm comfortable doing it.
