    DIY Oryx pedestal

Pedestals are expensive. I had the taxidermist do my mount pedestal style with the understanding that I would build my own pedestal.

Hear are the pieces I cut out to join and glue together.

    Lots of gluing and clamping!

    Top and offset block finished.

    Glue on some quarter round.

    Stain and attach the Oryx.

Thanks! I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

It was much more work than it appears but very satisfying.

Looks great! I used maple for mine. The whole thing is biscuit joined. There isn't a nail or screw in it. Took me longer but I have no concerns about it's strength.

Both oryx pedestals in this thread are remarkable. Nice Axis to boot, man cave deluxe! Or an overfilled living room, like mine is!

The horns were shipped to me loose so I had to epoxy them on. I filled in the cracks with epoxy putty and painted to match. Another way to save money on the mount and shipping cost. I had never done this before so I was a little nervous about texturing the putty and mixing the paint to match. I'm as proud at how this turned out as I am of the pedestal.
