    building deer blind... door?

i'm building a large elevated deer blind. have the framing done.
next step is a door. i was thinking of using a pre hung interior door from home depot.... you know, a hollow core door. i have a ton of expanding insulation, so i figured i can fill the door with that just to beef it up a little bit. my concern is making it weather proof.

i bought a can of that flex seal spray you see online... but the rustoleum brand. ya'll think if i spray the entire door, edges, inside and out, with that stuff that it'll hold up ok? if i get a couple years out of it i'll be happy... i've already broke the bank on the build and am trying to stay relatively cheap.

no, you should paint the outside with a outdoor waterproof paint

I used an interior door on mine and just painted it like the rest of the blind. Held up 4 years now. Could use a fresh coat but not bad yet. Door s just fine.

Do it yourself door kit from deer veiw windows is the only way to go.

well, i got ahold of deerview and man, that kit is out of my budget. it's 159$ for the kit. trying to build this on a semi-decent budget.

on another note, what do ya'll use for siding? OSB? plywood?

OSB will work but make sure you prime it (Kilz) and paint it, both sides. Preferably 2 coats.

I have an interior door (prehung) on our outhouse, it has help up fine for 3 years now, out in the elements. 2 coats of good paint on it. Way cheaper then an exterior door.

Hollow core doors actually have a cardboard, honeycomb structure inside the door.

Saw a blind the other day that had coroplast from big election signs stapled to OSB walls as an exterior siding. Looked like it would work well, if sealed on the edges.

I personally won't use OSB any more. It is not built the same or as good as it once was. I built my first blind with OSB and painted good and it last 15 years and still was a water tight blind but the last 2 I built with OSB came apart after 1 year. Same constuction and same paint so I used the primed 4 x 8 siding. Twice the cost but it will last forever!

I've been wanting to build a nice insulated box blind and side it with Hardy. I figure that would last pretty much forever. Be heavy as all get out and expensive, but it would last. I figure if I can build the exterior walls of a house, surely I can build a small blind with similar construction techniques and have a lasting setup, just won't ever be able to move it. I'm going to wait until I'm sure I have a lease I want to stay on first, but I'm tired of repairing or replacing blinds, and I haven't even been at it that long.

well, i ended up finding an awesome deal on roofing... went to a local store and they had some "cull" rolled roofing... over 100 sq feet for 7$! it's in great shape too...just the packaging got wet in the rain recently. so, roof is taken care of. still contemplating door...
