But not your typical mailbox. I have a 300 yard driveway with a gated entry. My wife is the amazon.com queen. Thus our daily delivery of packages. They have been leaving packages by the road even though I have them the code to get in. Our normal USPS person is lazy as all get-out. She actually threw a package out of the window of her delivery car on to our porch on three separate occasions. However that is a whole other story for a different day. Now I need to build some sort of "package mailbox" that they can make their deliveries in. Our packages very in size but I would think an opening of 36"x36"x48" would work for 99% of them. I have a regular masonry mailbox now and the package box would just add on or set beside. Give me some ideas of what you build and how to make it look good. Any ideas of how to make it weather tight and somewhat secure would be appreciated as well. Pics or scratches would be a definite plus. Thanks in advance!

I built a custom one for a customer once that I took a underbody mount truck tool box then mounted a regular looking mailbox ontop with a door built in the bottom so when they were out if town, they could flip it up and have extra storage area. The toolbox doubled as a ups drop off too. Mounted it and rocked it. I wish I had some pics for ya.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the big rural box. They are about 12" wide X 24" deep X 15" high. Then build a 3 foot high base under it out of 1/8" steel plate so that the above box will fit on top of it this will have 3 sides and a floor with a back door to it. Next cut the bottom out of the mail box and then mount it on the base you just built.
When the carrier opens the box the inside will now be 4 foot high, 12 inches wide and 24 inches in front to back depth. They can drop a lot of packages in that big of a box. And with a big door on the back of the addition it will be easy to get the packages out.
Just make sure you mount it securely, or the wind will blow it over.
