3/4-1" the more bracing you use, the smaller you need to use.
HOWEVER, if you're gonna pull it around on skids, it may be who of you to listen to pops and go bigger so as to not break a weld.

I built a 17' tower with a 4'x5.5'x7' high box on top of that. I used 1 1/2x1 1/2x.156 angle for the tower and 1 1/4x1 1/4x1/8 angle for the box. The tower is built in a 6' and 11' bolt together sections with the box bolting to the 6' section, which can be removed and just the 11' section used. With the cross bracing on the legs I have no trouble standing it up or laying it down. Angle is quite a bit less weight than tubing for a stand this size..

I personally would use angle iron. Lighter, and cheaper.

I used 1" for the frame and 2 1/2" angle for the base on the two I've built. I like using angle on the base to bolt down 2"x12" boards for a floor.

Here ya go. It has been pretty nice to hunt out of. I've made a few small changes, but not many. I have some material to make "curtains" for a couple of the windows that I don't look out of too much, need to get that done. I need to re-think how my door latches, I'm not too thrilled with it as is.

The wall thickness is more important than the size, but NOTHING under 1".

I build and sell stands, and i use 1" 16ga. never a problem.

Anything over 1" 16 ga is overkill and adds weight. I use 1.25" every now and then solely bc it gives you a little more to screw into
