I appreciate the comments guys. I'm glad guys are still finding it usefull.
Just for grins here are some more recent styled knives I've done. I've changed some of the ways I do things since I made this build along, but this build along will still hopefully point you in the right direction of getting into knifemaking.
In a few days I'll post up a friend/tbh member's knife who has been waiting on me to get it done. It will be white mammoth ivory that will match his folding knife.

Also knifemaking has brought me into a new hobby. I have a job where waiting on guest to arrive can be several hours of thumb twiddling. I couldn't work on knives very efficiently in the truck so I've taken up the art of scrimshaw. It's basically tattoing on ivory. I will be incorporating some of this on knife handles.

Beautiful work on the scrimshaw. What are these two done on? Can it work on antler and bone just as well. Sounds like a new tut to me!

Did you ever get a website? I live fairly close to Pampa and drive through there on my way to the hunting lease. I bought my kids some custom knives for christmas last year from a guy in Allison. I think I need one now.

                    Thanks guys,
Badkarma these are done on mammoth, but most bones and horns can be done. The trick is getting it polished well and sealing up any pores with thin super glue.
Fishanhunt I did get a website its is www.minchewknives.com. If you want to come by my shop/garage just hollar. Either through tbh or my number is on the website.

I bought a Delta small tabletop belt sander this morning at a garage sale. What type of belt and grit would work best for touching up knives and fixed blade broadheads? I have not gone to the hardware store but assume there is a selection and probably specialty belts on the web?

                          Thanks dessl for the compliment.
Bill what size of belt does it take. Trugrit.com no e on tru, usually has a good selection.
Start with a worn 400 grit for touch ups, 800 then buff on a cardboard or leather wheel. Depending on the wize of belt they may make a polishing belt so you don't need the wheels.

1" by 30" circular belt. The local hardware store has 120 grit as the finest one, but that still seems pretty rough for just touching up an edge. Fun thing, I did an old pocket knife and a.Magnus 2 blade I'd shot for practice and both came out very sharp.

Bill 120 is a little rough, it will come out sharp but will dull quicker most of the time.
                                Thanks DC!
