    Painting an Igloo Cooler

I have a small Igloo cooler that I want to paint camoflage. I have read some on the GS and also googled how to do this but I would like to know if anyone has been successful keeping the paint on the cooler for an extended period (weeks, months) after some normal wear and tear. I don't want to have to keep touching it up every couple of weeks.

I have read that sanding, priming, and using Krylon fusion helps but I have also read that people have had mixed results. I was about to run to Wal-mart to get some paint but decided to post here to see what the GS has to say.

Well, I went out to the garage for a 2nd look and it's actually a Coleman but the question still applies

    Any help would be appreciated.

I did one of mine either this past season or the season before that and it has just recently been showing some of the original blue and only in wear spots.

What paint did you use? Did you sand the cooler or use a certain type of primer? Thanks!

One of the big box stores have paint for plastic lawn furniture. I'm sure that stuff would work best

Thanks for the info. I will try a can of the fusion and post pictures and let you all know how it turns out.

I'm pretty sure I used Rust-Oleum Camoflauge. Just washed the cooler beforehand. I may have lightly sanded it (can't recall for certain) but I know I did sand the handle.

I also have a stake blind that I use to dove and duck hunt with that has been painted with the same and it has held up for many years.

I just painted a big old igloo orange with black webbing it looks sweet I read about modgepodge but I made my own with wood glue and water it seems to be holding up well. I cleaned it used a plastic primer painted it with two coats and before the second one dried I painted it with poly and indoor/outdoor top coat 1 coat each then rolled on my wood glue water mixture. if you hit it pretty hard the wood glue comes off but you cant really tell its just a little more glossy there. if you touch up the wood glue you cant tell its been redone at all even if you know it has been. dont worry when the wood glue looks like it is going to dry milky. the only reason it will is if you get too much pooled up the coats will just dry matte

I used the cheep camo paints from Lowes. Works great, stays on good. Had it at my lease for years!
