My mom called me one day and said hey I need you to come up with something so that her 15 year old weiner dog wouldn't fall into the pool and drown.
So I drank a couple of Keystones pondering what I could come up with that would be simple and inexpensive......cost wasn't an issue for her as this is her baby......but I wanted to try to save her some money.
Here is what I came up with...........
1" schedule 40 PVC made into stands and some garden netting from Lowes.
I cut all the PVC into the right lengths and put end caps on the bases.....before I put the last end cap on the base I filled with sand. Then I inserted the upright and filled with sand and capped it off. I then spray painted them all black to match the netting.
After all the posts were made I cut the netting in half so that it would be the right height for the post.
The one thing she wanted was for easy removal when she was having people over and in the pool. So I attached a 1 1/4" PVC cap to the fence post to set the end pole in......I then attached another 1 1/4" end cap at the top of the post but didn't tighten this one down real tight so that it would pivot to remove the post. I also drilled a drain hole in the bottom cap so that water could drain.
I started on one end hooking up the end post and then started attaching the netting to the posts as I went along with black zip ties. When I got to the other end I had excess netting so I just wound it around the other end post.
This works great for her however looking back I would have changed it up a little. I would have used 1 1/2 PVC so that the post weighed more. There are a couple areas where we have to put a rock on them so they don't get moved with heavy winds.
Overall a success. Her dog is able to go in and out the doggie door during the day without being able to fall into the pool and drown while she is at work.
