    Kayak Motor

Ok. Rigging up a Hobie Quest for AltaBonita and thought I'd share what ive completed so far. His kayak was bare bones to start, putting an anchor trolley and trolling motor on it.

So far I've Taken apart the motor and cut it down to size
heat shrink wires and seal the top with silicon by filling it up and then tipping it upside down. Inserted waterproof plug.

Then after some diliberation, we decided on the placement of the plug units for the back. He wanted all 5 FW/3Reverse speeds so we went with a 2 plug system.

So after painfully making the holes in a sweeet kayak, I started on the electrical control box.

For this I used a 3/4 hole electrical switch box from home depot with an extension top and connections for watersealed electrical connections, siliconed the poopoo out of it and had to modify the switch to fit inside the box.

Ran all the wires, through, installed the plugs onto the kayak, silicon, more silicon.

The next step was to figure out how i was going to mount the switch box, as it was in an awkward positions, I am going for a clean install so it was important to drill as little holes as possible. So this is what I came up with

Im pretty pumped about how it came out, i was able to rivet directly through the kayak, into the electrical box (more silicon) and it is solid. very pleased. Here is the box.

Now....to figure out how to mount the motor..........

    OH....I can make a mount...

the plan is to use the existing tilt control on the motor mount and simply make a mount that will allow movement in all directions, piece of cake...

For this, I pulled out a piece of aircraft aluminum from my secret stash...

    To do:
    1. build motor bracket and fit
    2. install anchor trolley
    3. test drive!

    I'm almost done ALTA!

It's considered a boat now. Better get registered and have all safety equipment.

bonita decided he wanted an anchor trolley , so I went ahead and installed one last night.

he wanted to use the existing trolling motor bracket so I cut and fit, sanded and fit, cut some more and finally matched it to the hull. Used the existing nuts and here we go...

Had an electrical problem so I had to take it all apart. No problems anymore.

It will all be retractable by his rudder rope and had 180 deg of movement.

Is the trolling motor retractable or does it always have to be in there water?

Retractable. Can be pulled up with the old rudder cord

Nice! How much does it cost to register a kayak? There's no title to one to be registered is there? I've never bought one new. Sorry if these are dumb questions.

Very nice. Man, you've got my wheels turning now. I'm thinking this, get with you and have you do the trolling motor setup for me and put some outriggers on it and walla, instant shallow water bowfishing rig.
