    Duck Calls

I'm new to duck call making, but I have been turning a few Lately. I make my own inserts and have them sounding pretty good. I'm looking for some help or some guidance. Where do you guys buy your materials for calls from? Reed Material, Blanks, cork, Bands ETC? Here a couple pictures of some whistles and a call I've made lately. I'm still learning so any advice will be appreciated.

I bought all my cork and sheets of Mylar for reeds from: hutproducts

I bought some bands from them and some custom ones from individuals online.

I'm curious to know what jig you used for the sound boards(if any)?

I've made a few duck calls(and a bunch of turkey calls) but could never get the duck calls to sound very good. I was hand carving the sound boards.

I started with a jig I bought from a guy, from there I learned what part made what reaction. .250” in one spot won’t seem to do anything…. And .010” somewhere else would completely change the call… that mixed with exhaust diameter. After a few years I had made the alterations to have my own sound board machined into a jig. But by then, I could hand fit the soundboard after cutting off my original jig and leaving meat in certain areas

I made 1 piece Arkansas style soundboard with cork and single reed. It’s an art that’s fun and honestly while a jig is a great way to make a call, the unique ability to tune one is rewarding vs mass production “stuff”

I dont have a jig I always just eyeball them, and tune them as I go. It’s a slow process, but I can usually get the sound I am after. I have made a flat jig out of a piece of 3/4” o.d. Pipe that’s where I start.
