Adding Receiver Hitch to Rear of Trailer

“Big Black” is the 28’ tandem axel trailer we completely rebuilt from the ground up in 2017. It’s primarily used for hunting and hauling feed/ATV’s back and forth to our two leases. Here recently one of our lease mates upgraded to a Polaris Ranger and we’ve found that 28’ isn’t quite big enough to haul all we need to out west for our week long hunt. A couple years ago my son and I built a small trailer that just fits his quad and we can make everything work if we can pull that behind our big trailer. Searched marketplace and found someone who had a Class 3 hitch brand new for sale. Made them a super lowball offer and they took $20 for the hitch.
Grabbed it and then went to fab'n and designing to make it work for our trailer. Big Black has a steel 3/16” thick plate floor which I felt sufficient to bolt through. Drilled four 1/2” holes in the floor and bolted the receiver into place. Then built a T brace using angle and plate to give two more places to bolt to and give vertical strength. Finally, used 1/2”x1” bar stock to extend front to back and tie into a channel cross member to pull from somewhere other than the steel floor. Bolted everything together using grade 8 1/2” bolts. 4 points of contact and 8 half inch bolts should make this hitch plenty strong to handle any small single axel trailer. Wired in a 4-strand female plug and tested to make sure all lighting worked, and it did.
Test fit everything then shot some krylon on all the pieces, let them dry to touch then bolted it all back together and tightened it in place. Extremely solid and 100% removable if needed.
