    Loft Bed

Our rooms are fairly small, so we’ve been looking at loft beds for our daughter. They are either terrible quality, or $3k at pottery barn. FB marketplace had one we planned to buy, but the folks stopped responding. Time to just build it. We recently painted her room and re-organized. The before picture and Pinterest inspiration below. Man I miss Tapatalk for photos.

Built the frame out of 2x4, ripped down to 3” and lag bolted to the wall. Ceiling fan is coming down, and I knocked a blade off which was good for a laugh. Trimmed the whole thing in poplar. Also glued and screwed down a sheet of 1/2” plywood which should add to the strength. That support is temporary, ladder will be the only support for the floating corner.

I don’t build with any grand plans, just make it up as I go. Picked a ladder angle that looked good, marked it with a level and had my angle to roll with. Then marked it where I wanted and made the cut out for the bed itself. Should add to the strength. That’s where I’ll pick it up today. Hoping it goes fairly quick and I can get a coat of paint on it.

You should see what the Corps terds do with wood in the tiny dorm rooms on the Quad at Texas A&M!

I was one of those "terds" 1978-1982. Fish & pissheads can't do anything to the room but butts & zips can. Don't forget the cylinder blocks.

Thanks all I’ll get some more pictures. I’m behind, as usual but almost read for paint.

Finished a few weeks ago, realized I never updated. Lights underneath can be controlled independently via her iPad and change colors.

It wasn’t too hard or expensive. If I didn’t go crazy with the lights it would have been even easier. Been a game changer, it opened up the whole floor.
