We picked up a mint 1985 IH/cub cadet lawn tractor from my neighbor this week. It was bought new by his aunt and has the original sales receipt as well as all the service records through 2016 when he inherited it. He said it ran when parked, so we’re starting with a carb cleaning, new battery and plugs and a little go juice.
The plan was to slam it and pulley swap it to make a neighborhood cruiser to zip around with my boys and their go karts but after finding out the hydrostatic trans it has won’t go more than 15MPH without grenading, we’re stuck deciding whether to restore it to original specs or swap the motor and trans with something modern and continue the rat rod build.
