    Cub Cadet 682 project

We picked up a mint 1985 IH/cub cadet lawn tractor from my neighbor this week. It was bought new by his aunt and has the original sales receipt as well as all the service records through 2016 when he inherited it. He said it ran when parked, so we’re starting with a carb cleaning, new battery and plugs and a little go juice.
The plan was to slam it and pulley swap it to make a neighborhood cruiser to zip around with my boys and their go karts but after finding out the hydrostatic trans it has won’t go more than 15MPH without grenading, we’re stuck deciding whether to restore it to original specs or swap the motor and trans with something modern and continue the rat rod build.

Nice ride! Hard to believe that a riding mower costs the same in 1985 as it does today.

Hope y’all do something cool with it!

Found a neighbor with a donor mower for a transmission and possibly a motor, so we tore it down today to prepare for putting a traditional pulley-driven drivetrain in. The highlight of the day was realizing this thing is so old that all the bolts are SAE

Finished the day with the front drop and steering worked out. My donor motor didn’t work out so I’m on the hunt for a good 15hp vert shaft

Brought the donor mower home and got the trans out. The trans pulley was good and rusted so we’re letting it soak overnight before we break out the BFH.
This is getting more “Roadkill” by the day

Did you find a donor motor? Got a Ariens (sp) 19hp mower sitting on the back porch. Motor ran when parked. Probably needs a battery now, tires are dry rotted/flat, and needs a mower deck belt. Come get it for $100

I believe I have found one, going to pick it up this week from another neighbor after he gets it cleaned up and confirm it runs. If not, I’ll be through WP next week and will definitely be interested in yours.
