    Hog Trap with trampoline frame

Have had plans to do this for a while and recently saw DrenalinJunkie comment on it. We started putting up a hog trap using a trampoline turned upside down and secured with 16+ t-posts. The door is an angled drop down made from an old Acme restaurant shelf hinged to an angle iron frame. Upper end will be secured to the metal frame and the lower end to t-posts inside the trap area. Cattle panels will line the inside, and we are using a small 50lb feeder to throw corn.

Got about 2/3 waydone yesterday. The cattlepanels in picture are just leaning on the outside of the trap, they will go on inside the frame for strength. We will bend them to cover the sloping sides of the trap door.

We plan to leave the door up until we see evidence of pigs visiting the feeder, and then drop the door one night and wait for the call that there are pigs.

That is the plan anyway. We should get it up and running on Saturday. I will let you know how it turns out.

          Pictures

OK I added the 2 that I have. Will get some more when done next weekend.

And before anyone mentions the Pig Exit Ramp flaw in the design of the door, we are going to attach another wire shelf unit horizontally above the drop door to hopefully keep them from escaping.

Good use of the trampoline. I'm doing the same thing. I am welding together 2 frames, 1top and 1 bottom and welding the wire between the 2 frames. Keep the pictures coming.

I don't understand what the trampoline frame is for. Wouldn't it be simpler to just attach the panels directly to the t-posts?

For me it seems like it gives the trap alot of support especially down low where the pigs will likely be doing the most damage. It gives you a solid ring all the way around the bottom. You also get 8 uprights (the frame legs) and 4 top bars to tie the cattle panels off to. The legs will also kick the panels in a little so it might make it harder for them to piggyback their way out of the trap.

Plus it gave me an excuse to get that thing out of the back yard.

BTW does anyone have any ideas about what to use the old trampoline fabric jumping surface for? That is some kind of tough. I guess it would make a real good round sunshade or something.

How about all those springs? I think there must be about 80 of them all in perfect condition.

I will add some pictures after this weekend.

Fair enough. The trampoline does make an excellent sunshade. It lets a little light through but blocks a lot of the heat. Good luck with the trap.

The springs work well for hog trap doors and the fabric works well to shade the trap top

I was going to suggest using the tarp for a hog panel blind but this is a gooden

Tarp to build a ground blind with the DIY plans on here.
Also use the tarp to shade a trailer or side of a building, maybe a water tank?
Springs are good for hot wire fence and gates.
