    Tripod build

I have never been partial to tripods, but over the past couple of years I've wanted to hunt a couple of areas where I couldn't use a tree stand. So, here we go.

No, I'm not a welder, and no it's not TMA certified.

Looking at about 10-12' high. The pic below is the start of the platform. The seat will be directly on the swivel. About the only thing that I have to work out at the end is the footrest.

Looks good!! Try a little more heat or stay in the puddle a little longer this will smooth the weld out! My $.02

I have updates, just need to get the pictures transferred. I'll also have some questions about stabilizing the legs, pics will put it into words.

            Progress

Okay, pics area ready and so are my questions. Most of what I worked with came from Big Iron's tripod build and some of the advice he received.

@11'-6" to the top. Rear legs are 1" 16 ga, front ladder is 3/4 14ga I built last year, now donated to this project. The legs are angled about 23deg (20-25deg)

The front ladder seems to have a decent amount of flex to it. I'm wondering if the support as you see in one of the pics would be better, or bracing between the legs (see the string) would be better? I'm also planning on using a cable from the platform to the ground and/or adjustable feet on each leg staked to the ground.

I only hunt public land, so portability is the key. Almost every place I have found that I wanted to use a tripod didn't have trees that would support a lock-on stand, but I can use a tree to lash the tripod platform to as well as tie off my FAS.

Let me know your ideas. I'm off to Academy this morning for the seat, and back by Lowes for some paint and leg pins.

your considered brace height looks about right. I feel that you will definitely need it braced with the size tubing you went with. Unless it's already welded on, you might consider putting the seat swivel up on a pedestal. It would greatly simplify the additon of a foot rail.

The swivel isn't welded yet, I wanted to get the seat and make sure I had clearance for my legs.

I thought about the pedestal as well but was worried that further above the platfom would decrease the stability.

I've got some angle I can cut and bend for the braces.

you aren't going to loose stability with a 19" pedestal. I used 1.5" round tubing i think.

LeanMachine I've been thinking about your suggestion and I think I'll follow it. I'll take about 16" off the legs and use the pedestal. Keep me at the same height, add some stability to the legs and like you said make the footrests easier. My idea on the footrests are simple fold-down type, only weight they will bear is resting my foot and using it for leverage to rotate the seat.

                      Thanks for the help.

Have you considered cutting the legs on half to make it easier to haul? A built one almost like yours and did that. It makes the stand more versatile also. I am also going to make a wheel kit for it so I don't have to mess with a game cart. I will get you some pics when done.

                              I dig the stand
