    Bobcat European Skull

Have any of you guys did your own bobcat skull as a European mount? I've done numerous deer, but never a cat. I'm assuming it would be generally the same process... Any hints/tips? Thanks

I've got one that I found on a deer lease a few years ago. Didn't have to do much to it other than clean it up with some peroxide and glue the teeth back in it. I didn't bleach it cuz I like em to look more natural. Got a fox skull that I found on another place the following year. Both were completely intact when I found them.

Same process as you would use for a deer. Main difference is that the bones are much thinner so you have to be more careful. Also the teeth will fall out so pay attention to what goes where so you can glue them back in.

Good Point, Thanks! I'm guessing the lower jaw will seperate from the top... When mounting do you glue it in place, or leave it moveable?

Teeth ar the biggest problem when doing bobcats. They fall out and are tiny and can be lost easily. I am finishing one for my FIL right now.

As for mounting you can do it several ways. I use small pins to hold the jaw open or I leave them closed. Depending on what the customer wants.

I just did one earlier this fall, and have to agree that the teeth are small and easy to lose if you knock them out. I managed to only lose one of the tiny ones in the front. I simmered mine for several hours, along with a possum skull and jaw. After a good rinse, I bleached them with hair salon peroxide. They both turned out very nice. Now all I need is a skunk, a raccoon, a ringtail cat, and a nice boar's head with cutters.

I did not glue my jaw. I just had it sitting atop it. As best as i remember, you may want a dab of glue on the joint that divides the mandible into left and right halves.

If you could, please post pics of your european mounted bobcat skulls. I'm trying to get ideas as to how I want to mount mine. I think I want a small desk pedestal but I'm not sure.

Ryan, I use a small wire basket to put small heads into before I put them in the pot; so you are not fishing for the teeth at the bottom of the pot or having to pour you water out to find them.

The cat skull doesn't require much time in the pot...

When you say Not Much Time, how long are you talking about?
