All you need is a welder, drill, grinder, and chop saw. Oh and time.

The best way I have found to stay cheap, easy and not have to worry about your feeder getting pushed over is the following:
A tree that is fairly straight up to about 8 or 9 feet.
55 gallon steel drum.
2X4 block about a foot long.
about 8 to 10 feet of chain(strong enough to hold the barrel to the tree.
a turn buckle to tighten the chain arounf the drum and tree.
whatever timer you want to use.
screw the block to the tree about 6 feet high, set the barrel on the block and strap it to the tree using the chain.
couple of things to watch for:
dont tighten the drum too tight as it might warp it and then the lid will not fit. Also, keep the chain around the mid part of the drum as close to one of the rings as you can get.
also, you may need to put a small spacer between the barrel and the tree. You will need that space at the top so you can get your lid on and off.
I have been doing my feeders like this for years and I love it!!
