    Pickup Bed Dog Shade

Since I take my two best friends just about everywhere with me; and since they're dogs and I make them ride in the back; and since it has broken 100 degrees more times this year than any in recorded history...I decided to make a shade for my pickup bed.

    Materials:
Headache rack, removalbe kayk rack, 2 pieces of 15/32" plywood, stain, a few u-bolts and voila.

My dogs ride in the back seat. Spoiled big time. Different story if I had a nicer truck though

That is really nice! Like czechgrub says- that black liner (rubber or plastic) gets awful hot and can burn their feet on it, but this shade keeps the sun off them and allows for plenty of air. We should do the same for our dogs.

Rifle is right-I am sure Katie (Cattle Kate) approves and she is young enough to really like it, but my old dog Checkers can't cool herself enough anymore- she is 14- so she gets a pass in the A/C or stays home, which I think is best. She mostly sleeps anyway and it is less stressful. In her younger days she was with me 24/7 everywhere, so I know how you feel about taking your dogs with you. I still miss taking her with me but it is not worth her heat stroking.

Very nice......but next time you might want to build them a A roof with a ridge vent and a ceiling fan!

I need to do this too so I can get back to taking my girls riding with me again..your dogs will thank you. I am going to take it one step further and keep a keg of water back there for them to drink when we stop.

That is really great, my dogs go everywhere with me in the fall, winter and spring. I need one of these to take them with me now.
