    Home made directional feeder????

Has anybody ever tried a "DIY" for a directional feeder? I've done several searches and can't find anything. I'm thinking of trying to fabricate one instead of buying what I really don't want to begin with.

I like the unit that krivoman sells but he said he would need several guys wanting one to justify getting them built.

I'm wanting a 12v set up and all I can find are 6v or you have to buy the complete set up with a barrel/hopper. All I want is the thrower to mount to one of my barrels that's on a 16' winch up tripod. I've got a spare motor so I'm considering getting a couple of metal ammo cans and trying to build something that will work great and every time.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed.

I messed around a little trying to build one, it worked ok but I ended up buying a remington directional feeder, just the timer and motor no barrel, I think it is 6v, it throws catfish food or corn very well, the lake is so low I cannot put it out now. Good luck

Can you tell me how you did yours? I'm wondering if my plan is basically the same way you built yours. What didn't work so good on yours? Thanks

Got a Kenco Straight shooter if interested, PM me with the address and I will send one to you. It takes two 6v batteries and is programmed by the sunset and sunrise. I am sure you could add a timer to it if you could find out how to hook it up.

            ^^

I was going to say, check out Kenco, we have a couple on our ranch and they work fine, i think after 8 years the first one had it's "fins" broken off, but i figure 8 years for a feeder isn't too bad of life. especially saying they cost about $40

Here's a few pics of a 12 volt directional set up that bolts to the bottom of your hopper. With out a timer and battery this sells for $80. Can be sold with a timer.

The battery and timer are housed inside this box with the directional spinner on top.

How well does that set up work? I stopped by Monarch last week and make one similar but I don't think it'll throw the corn out as far as I would like.

The way I'm planning to build one is to have the motor mounted horizontally to get some good distance with the throw. My only hold up is, I don't know if I'll need a second motor to feed the corn to the horizontal motor.

It throws corn out about 15 foot and as the motor slows down, it trickles back in a little closer.

I'm working on a new design that throws about 45-50 foot. It should be ready in a few months or less. Single motor. Heavy Duty.

The feed inlet and spinner plate design are tricky and critical to throwing out good distance and volume.

I have ordered on from krivoman

Karl when you get your new design worked out let me know. I'm planning on changing all my feeders over to directional.

I think I will still play around with building one but it'll be after I finish my sleep convertion and make a few changes to a golf cart I bought from a TBHer.
When I get around to it I'll come back here and post pics of the build unless it's flop.

I bought a spin pro (aluminum programmable) and it works well, it throws a good 15-20 feet and the set up I built is only a couple feet off the ground with the legs on it... This is only a 6 volt thrower but it does the job and does it well...

I wanted one that was portable and versatile, I built mine out of a 30gal barrel, built a bracket that will allow me to hang in on a tree at whatever height I wanted or use the removeable legs and lean it to the tree... (I hang it in a hog environment and put it on the ground where hogs aren't a problem).

                        Here a couple pic's...

Let me post some pics when I get home this evening. I bought one from Krivoman last year and really liked it, but when I needed another earlier this spring he didn't have any. I decided, "I can make one of those," so I did. Except I made the whole thing out of welded plastic (I work at a plastic fabrication plant) and put an aluminum channel spinner blade in it. I finally got around to testing it yesterday, and it will throw corn 18-20 yards just sitting flat on the tailgate of my pickup. 6' up in the air no telling how far it will sling it. May have to run it on the low or medium setting instead of high.
