I have been thinking about wiring ours with external battery and a solar panel for a couple years now. Great idea on the PVC dummy batteries.

I did the same thing on a Bushnell cam I had, didn't have a solar panel but I had two Werker 6 volt batteries each in a plastic box that I would swap out every couple of weeks in the winter. There was a similar article on chasinggame.com.

Is there not an auxilary plug in on the cuddebacks? And If so why not use it? I guess Im missing the point of the PVC "battery"

No aux power port in the Cuddes--and all 3 of mine have taken the dive and no longer work. I'm running Primos 60s now-don't like the IR flash and they make enough noise waking up for a shot that many pics are blurred, but so far they've been reliable.
