    DIY hog pipe, feeder questions

I am getting some ideas together to build a couple of these when I get home in a few months. Got a few questions if y'all don't mind answering them.

    1. What size pipe should I use? 3" or 4" and what lenght? Was thinking 4"x5'

    2. How many holes should i drill and what size? Was thinking 4-6 1/2" holes.

    3. How heavy of cable or chain should I use?

Any other advise you can give me, I would appriciate it. Thanks

I used 4" and about 5' (I want to try 6") long only drill enough holes to keep them interested but not enough that they can empty it in a night. You do not need a very strong cable or chain. I have put some up using rope ant they were just fine till I could change to chain. For a swivel I just leave the I bolt loose and put a 2nd nut to keep them from backing out.
          Hope this helps.

for the swivel i used a 1/2" eye bolt WELDED closed. ive have pigs bend that unwelded eye bolt open the end of the bolt inside the pipe is double washered and doubled nutted to keep it on. then used 1/8" cable and made 3 or so laps around the tree and through the eye bolt with 3 saddle clamps. keeping it together. 4 half inch holes is plenty. our pigs would empty our 5ft. X 4" pipe with 4 holes in less than 2 weeks.

this is a great poject. made several of these and then up'ed the process to 55 gallon drums with a piece of t post as the ancor. same project added some rocks bigger than the holes so there is always some noise in the barrel.

I only have one hole in mine. Mine are only 3'. I do have some 5'. I have a swivel at the pipe and the anchor. went from using cable to just using chain. The only place that I have cable is a loop at the tree or t-post.

sorry I don't have a better picture for you!

mine is 5'x4" with 4 1/2" holes. 5/16" eye bolt w/swivel. about a 1.5' of 3/16" chain and some 1/4" cable to go around tree or t post.

One hole keeps them interested? Looks like it does. I am new to hog hunting, and just trying to get as much info as I can.. Thanks.

Do a search here. There were a couple of good threads on building them I used 4" x 5' long pipe sealed one end and used the screw in piece for the other end. I used a swivel and cable attachment like in the pic above. I drill 1/2" holes down the pipe every 6". Hope this helps you!

i used a 18'' chain with a swivel clip on one end and a 2'' brass ring on the other that way i could slide it over a t post. I got all my hardware from Tractor Supply the combinations are endless with all the stuff they have.
