    Winter tent

I have always wanted to build one of these ,and after planning a winter time kayak camping trip I decided to build one and try it. It should cut the wind much better than a tent.
I picked up a tarp and went to the woods to cut some poles and here she is.

Just a small fire warms it up nearly instantly

Plenty of room for my cot

I really enjoyed this project .
I am going to try a few more configurations before the trip.

I did a little more playing and reading . I changed the tipi to a miners tent configuration, 4 poles , It works better with the straight sides of the pyramid and uses less material.

        Cot fits much better.

There is a lot of room for one person and gear. two might be a little tight .
This is one 9 ft by 19 ft tarp and squares out to an 8+8 .
Next I am going to try setting it up with just one center pole.

Great idea that doesn't cost very much. If you are looking for something more durable and permanent you should check out the range teepees that Big Bend Saddlery sells. I have stayed in one when there was 6" of snow on the ground and it was comfortable.

That is really cool. I went to a dude ranch in Montana one summer and one of the wranglers there lived in a tipi all summer long. His set up was a little more formal but I was amazed at how warm the tipi was from just a small fire. Good job on that
