DIY camo on stock tutorial with pics

Ok I posted the finished product a few days ago, but I decided I would do a DIY with pics.

OK so you start with your stock. This stock is off of a Rem 700 SPS varementer .

Then you take off all the hardware

Then what I did was I used one of the scotch scrub pads and roughed up the entire stock and then I washed it down with dish soap in very hot water in the sink. Make sure you rinse it very well and get off all the soap.

I taped and trimmed the grip areas off so I would not paint them and leave them black.

Then I did the base coat of black paint.

While the base coat dries, you can make your stencils this take wax paper and blue scotch painters tape
You lay out a sheet of wax paper

Then start covering it with strips of tape over lap about 1/8 inch

Then draw out shapes. Make them look like lakes no straight lines or corners.
don make them to big but you can always cut them down later.

Now go get your stock and start placing the stencils you just cut on it. You rely only want to cover up between a 4rth and 3rd of the stock make sure all of your edges are down so no paint seeps under.

On this coat of tan paint do not try to get a thick coat first spray do several light coats make sure your tape does not peal up and try not to spray so much that it puddles around the tape edges.

Next is another layer of stencils. Again make sure you make sure all the edges are laying down.

Now the last coat, this one will be green.

    Then remove all the tape

You can put a some mat clear paint over it if you want to build of some protection. Hope yall understand ask any questions you want
    Matt

Very nice. Is the wax paper so you can peel up your stencil shapes? Slick idea.

Yep, another tip is it helps to have a razor blade handy to help with separating the two later. They both are very thin.

                    Looks real good!!

                    I just have one question.
How is the wax paper sticking to the stock?

For what I see, The blue tape is sticking to the wax paper and i can't fogure out why the blue tape is on top.
                    Thanks!

My bad you are pretty much makeing your own peal and stick stickers or stencils. So you just peal the tape off the wax paper when you are ready to stick it to the stock a razor blade can help with this process of seperating the wax paper from the tape.

                        Old school woodland camo FTW!

Well done! Definitely looks better than the all black, stealth look.
