I'm starting to think the shafts on the motors I used are too short. Definitely try to get shafts that are minimum 15mm, 20+mm would be better.
And talked to my electical engineer brother, who suggested this:
It acts as a speed controller, by switching the power on and off (duty cycle %). It can conceivably increase battery life 10x.Last edited by 10Ring; 10-05-2014, 07:18 AM.

Upgrades.
Now have 6 motorized decoys, mounted on upside down tomato cages.
12 volt lawn mower battery --> PWM (pulse width modulator) to allow adjustment of the speed, and make the battery last forever with it set to a slow duty cycle --> wire harness with a wire to each dove.
Here's a short clip of testing the PWM.

The motors I use are long shafted on both ends.
