Here is a home-made wire roller I built. It is made from parts around the farm. It will roll both barb and smooth wire. I'll post pics in my next few posts.

Nice! That'll work.
We used to have one that was built out of a car axle/differential. It had a 3-point hitch welded to it to hook up to a tractor. Then a PTO drive shaft ran from tractor to differential. We just used old wheels to roll wire onto. You could mount one on each side, of course. It had a 3" pipe sticking straight up at the very back between the wheels. You could throw the wheels over the pipe, and they'd ride there just fine. The pipe was probably 3' tall. The pipe was also useful when we needed to pull up a fence post. Wrap a chain a couple times around the post, and then throw a couple wraps around the pipe and lift it up with the tractor. Wish I had a pic.

I welded the disk to a spare tire. Then I welded a 6" pipe to the disk, i think it was 8" long. I cut the disk to fit the inside of the pipe. I welded some 3/8 bolts to the other end of the pipe. Then I cut holes in the cover disk for the 3/8 bolts. After that I welded some 1 1/2 x 1/4 strap to the outside disk to keep the wire off of the pipe, the strap is on a angle so you can get the wire roll off of the disk. Then I built the extension arms for the hay spike. I use this to lift and hold the pickup in place. You want the driver rear wheel to just spin, while the passenger side hold to the ground. I don't know if it all makes sense or not. I have rolled up over 1/4 mile of barb wire in one roll. It depends on how much weeds and grass is in the fence row. With the roll in the pics i rolled 4 smooth electric wires at once.
