My wife and I bought a home in Magnolia last year. It had nothing for a back porch at all. We put a pool in last summer, and poured concrete for a porch at the same time. We decided to try to cover it ourselves, and just got around to trying it in the last couple weeks. There are kits available, but none fit what we needed, so we ordered rough cedar and built it from scratch. I have zero construction experience other than a few deer stands & small welding projects, so this was a good long way outside my comfort zone. In spite of that, we sure had fun building it.
There are still details to take care of, like touch-up staining and cutting off the bolts. We'll add lights and a new grill soon.
