D-I-Y: Putting a deck Semi Vee Jon Boat

    Hey guys,

I am thinking about decking out my 14' v-hull jon boat. I would really like some ideas as to how to do it, what would to use, use bedliner or not, what to use for live well, storage, etc...

Any help would be appreciated. I have an idea about what I want to do, but other pics would sure help out.

    Thanks in advance

I would suggest going to tinboats.com I have gotten some great ideas from there. I posted up both of the boats I have modified there. You can use just about anything, but it really depends on how much your willing to spend and your skill level. I aluminum welded in a rib from another boat to mount my front deck on. Some can't weld aluminum and need to go another route. Look there and you will see what I mean.

I used a polyurethane foam board instead of plywood. Very strong, lighter, and impervious to everything but sunlight. So I painted it with a light sifting of sand in between coats. Pricey and not real easy to find, but worth it. It won't rot, warp, and you cut and screw together just like wood.

I had to cut the deck out of a Tracker Grizzly and replace a couple of years ago for a customer (warranty repair for Tracker). For my simi-V, just had to trim the old deck up some and rivit it down. Already had the hat bracing under it for support. Then I cut a hatch opening and installed an old hatch lid from another repair job to make storage area. I left the seat post opening in place to hold the mushroom anchor so it dosn't bounce around on the bottom/hull of the boat while on a trailer or in rough water. Anchor is the white thing, up side down on the deck. Just sold the boat last night. Lotta good memories from it

          What huntinfool said.

I posted a simple build on there of a boat that I just sold. If I were going to do one to keep I'd use aluminum but this was just to get me thru a couple of years, so I used wood.

Yeah that was a heck of a hogfish and I think he used some sorta bow fishing rig to catch it.....LOL

Thanks Mallard. I'm already missing that boat.

I have a poly type floor in my 18 foot aluminum center console and it is great. However, on our small 14 ft flatbottom, we just use carpet covered plywood. It is great to be able to just pull the floorboards up and clean them separately and also clean the bottom of the boat.

That looks exactly like what I want to do to mine. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the wood to lay flat on the curves of the boat? Did your boat have three seats across?

Do you have the plans that you did for this one? Also, that looks like a frame in the hatch openings. Am I correct?
