I used a inch and a half wooden dowle rod or clothes closet pole , drilled a 3/8hole through center several inches, put it to a belt grinder to form the point, cut a 1/8 notch down center of pointed end, drilled 1/8 hole in all thread for 1/8" rod to go through to hold amount of corn to go out. dont forget to cut wood rod off at about three inches to form the bottom. hard to write but look at the other post to get the idea. need 1 1/2" hole in bottom of bucket.

I had a couple... years ago. They did what they did, sometimes... I found they either didn't feed or on a typical windy Texas day, they'd empty themselves before noon
They were still swaying in a tree last time I saw them 30 years ago.
I think the Rain-Bird manual/analog sprinkler timer type came next.
God bless the inventor of the digital, programmable timer.

We used to make them... 3/8" piece of all-thread about 2' long... drill a hole in the top that entered the bucket and place a piece of stif wire through the hole and bend it around the bolt and leave 3"-4" ends sticking away from the rod. ( kinda like the internals of a fertilizer spreader) them we placed this rod in the barrel through the bottom. place a large fender washer and a couple of nuts ( so they lock near bottom of feeder) up the rod. This will enable you to control the flow of the corn when the wind blows. We would place another nut about 4" from the bottom with another washer to help hold the "wind vanes" in place.
For the wind vanes we would take some steel flashing material 3" x 18" and interlock them in a X pattern around the bottom of the all thread. It would be bent around the all-thread and had slits cut so they would wrap around the thread. Then placed a bottom washer and a lock type nut.... If we could find them... we would place coke bottle boxes below so that when the corn hit the box the deer would come in and the smaller square holes in the box kept the cows at bay (somewhat!) sorry no pictures.... this was 20+ years ago....

Just get a bucket, cut a hole in the bottom slightly larger than an old piece of broom handle, stick the broom handle through the bottom so that it hangs down/out 24 to 30 inches, suspend broom handle inside of the bucket and make a bump feeder.
Deer bump the broom handle, out falls the corn.
