Coincidence? Not likely.

Maybe a bad lightening storm? About the only possible explanation I can think of which would cause this naturally. Maybe someone that works in the forestry department has answers.

Nothing is ever mentioned about the Indians setting fire to the prairies for hundreds of years to burn them off so the grasses would rejuvenate and come back lush and green and thicker than ever before to feed the buffalo herds. The Indians knew a few things and were the best stewards of the land ever.

They also set fire to the prairie to get the buffalo to move to a location easier for them to kill them.

The difference between then and now is we didn't like nature take care of itself. whether the prairie or the mountains out west.
