    Mandatory breathalyzers on ALL new vehicles starting in 2026

    This is part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that was passed some time back. It is not pending legislation, it isn’t in committee, it isn’t an idea. It has already passed and is now law.

    All new vehicles in 2026 will have to have not only an on board breathalyzer, but also devices that will detect impaired driving, be able to stop the vehicle, and will record it all. But we don’t have to wait till 2026 for this to go into effect. Ford and Volvo have already stated that some of their vehicles will have these systems in place and working by 2024!

    So if you don’t want big brother even more involved with where you drive, how you drive, and them able to shut your vehicle off then don’t buy any new vehicle in 2026.

    Can you supply some credible proof to this statement?

          Why do you think the big push to EV all the time? Because of the environment? Haaaaa haaaa!! If they could have done it, they would have shut down everyone's car during the pandemic. Thats the goal for next time.

                then they can setup check points targeting older cars.
                All in the name of safety.

                  This is really going to hurt the restaurant industry.

                    Definitely going to make parking harder with everyone waiting in the parking lot to start their cars

                      got an invention out of this. blow up a bunch of balloons before going and drinking. have a regulator for flow and volume.

                        From the story in the link:

                        NHTSA will evaluate technologies that may include:

                        *Driving performance monitoring systems that monitor the vehicle movement using
                        cameras and sensors that are outside the vehicle, such as lane departure warning and
                        attention assist;
                        *Systems that monitor the driver’s head and eyes, typically using a camera or other
                        sensors that are inside the vehicle;
                        *Alcohol detection systems that use sensors to determine whether a driver is drunk and
                        then prevent the vehicle from moving.

                        I may be wrong but a breathalyzer in every vehicle seems like the least likely of those options.

                            I guess now's a good time to start up a used car lot.
