Cattle Rustlers (alleged) Caught Trinity Country

Kind of weird to still have modern day rustling going on.

You'd be surprised how much of that still goes on.

It wasnt maybe 10 years ago here in Lampasas county a guy that hauled cows in a 18 wheeler got busted stealing 1 or 2 off every load. He did a few years for it.

I’m assuming the horses “identified” as cows?

It seems pretty crazy this day in age but it's amazing how much livestock and ag equipment is stolen in this state.
I know a TSCRA Special Ranger that works a handful of counties in central Texas and the brazen behavior of these thieves is astounding.

I also know two guy guys (separate cases) that got thrown in federal prison for a cattle theft ring. One of them is currently writing a book about the frame job he was caught up in and his time in the pen.

Happens all the time especially with neighbors.

We lease out the grazing. Rancher got hit several years ago losing a handful.

Very easy to do if they have a handful of good dogs. It happens more than most think.

Until now, this was considered one of the largest cattle theft operations in history:
Con Artist Turns Texas inot his $100M Playground But this was just a warm up compared to this week's news of the McClain - 7M Feeders fraud.

Texas Cattle Feeding Ponzi Scheme - $150M fraud. Multiple companies went bankrupt and the perpetrator committed suicide in April.
AgTexas Farm Credit Services, First Capital Bank of Texas, Caterpillar and Rabo AgriFinance (RAF) are just a few of the numerous creditors listed in the filing. Estimated assets range from $1 million- $10 million while estimated liabilities range from $50 million- $100 million.

I think about 1997 cattle prices were awful, sale barns would close down early. Folks would be selling calves along side the road real cheap, as they just would not bring anything. There was no one stealing them.

It got real bad for a while. One day I had 6 feeder calves in a trailer and stopped at the ice house for a cold drank, when I come back out there was 8 calves in my trailer. That is how bad it was.

This is completely related to his involvement with drugs, I guarantee. I've known Luke and his family since he was in short pants. His dad (who passed a few years ago) was a hard-scrabble guy who created a small empire completely from hard work and being awesome at selling himself and his ideas. And Larry McGinn was always good to me, and was a client for years. Luke's drug stuff was a large part of his parents' divorce. This just saddens me to see, but not surprised. This is always how things go when drugs are involved. Sad part is, Luke's smart as a whip and wholly capable of making a good life outside of this sort of thing.

I remember when I was a kid the sheriff of Fannin County along with a crop duster guy got caught rustling cattle out of OK and keeping them in his pasture in the Bois d'Arc creek bottoms until they sold them. Texas Rangers ambushed them on night as they were being loaded in an 18 wheeler to be hauled away and sold. I believe the Sheriff's last name was Ivy. There were several people involved and all were sent to the big house.
