Starting a Sudan thread

Figured I’d start one. Seems the story is growing and there might be more to it than just militant fighting.

I’ll sum it up though. Victoria Nuland is involved and so is Russia. Another proxy war. However, it goes further.

The US has evacuated the embassy, however, just like in Ukraine the civilians in the country are left behind.

Doesn’t seem to be as big of conflict as Russia and Ukraine but it’s one worth keeping an eye on. Especially with reports of a biolab being under control of a fighting group.

I saw Tim Kennedy saying they are getting teams together to try and get Americans out of Sudan. Same as they did in Afghanistan.

This is turning into a repeat of the Afghanistan as far as US citizens are concerned. Every other country is getting their people out but our fearless leaders pulled their diplomat buddies and then told the 16,000+ private citizens that it's just too dangerous to try to get them out and they just need to shelter in place.

That sounds like a ton of US citizens to be in Sudan. Guessing these are people with dual citizenship? I wonder how many are aid workers? Bad situation.

It does sound like a bunch of people but I'm betting you're correct on a large chunk of them being aid workers, missionaries, and probably a large contingent of oil and gas workers and consultants. I know Sudan produces about 500k bbls of oil per day so they have a pretty extensive oil and gas industry. It's a bad deal all the way around.
