    Stop worrying.

Look at the numbers. Yes we should protect our children but when you look at the numbers these school shootings are very rare.

Early 1990's, according to the article above, had about 3 times the number of school shootings.

Over 10x as likely for a kid to die while texting and driving. Not someone, the actual driver. Over 1,000 times more likely just being a distracted driver.

Odds are even 3x higher that lightening will strike and kill a kid.

I appreciate you posting this. I'm going to show it to my wife as she is absolutely sure our daughter's going to get kidnapped on her way to school, or involved in some kind of school shooting.

If you spend any time around here, it's sometimes hard not to worry with all the "negative happenings of the day" posts on this forum.... and then the news. I've all but cut out watching any news these days

There is a database of mass shootings maintained by Mother Jones, which despite it left leanings, is pretty much universally acknowledged as being accurate. You can easily search, find and download into Excel.

It dates back to Columbine and there is not an increase in school mass shootings on a per capita basis (population as well as number of schools). The media routinely lies about this when reporting on frequency of school shootings.

The left has also changed the definition of both school and mass shootings over time to make it look like the frequency has increased.

The one thing that is alarming and we tend to ignore on the right is that the deadliness of school shootings (and mass shootings) has increased dramatically, especially when you factor in just how much much police response times have improved.

It is because of the increased deadliness of certain weapons and their apparent ease of access. Both the weapons and the clips. One shooter can do a tremendous amount of damage in seconds, much less minutes.

Still doesn't justify the fear generated by politicians and the media and the undue stress placed on children going to school.

                  Stop worrying.

My wife is a 1st grade teacher and had a bit of a melt down this morning after she watched the newly released videos of the police standing around the hallways as kids were getting shot. It’s a hard deal for teachers to think about but I told her the same thing.

The media jumps all Over these shootings because it is shocking, but they are incredibly rare.

Her biggest fear is once the classroom door is closed, that’s the only way out. If someone actually made it inside the classroom, there’s no where to go. Although rare, We have to do a better job of making schools a less soft target. Predators will always look for the weak.

school fires were rare too, and then we implemented numerous school safety regs centered around building materials... now school fires are almost unheard of in the US.

The best way to minimize worrying about the safety of kids at a school is to make sure that the school at least has protocols in place to keep strangers from walking in… I think we can all agree the there were massive errors/failure to perform their sworn duty committed by Leo’s and the response to the shooting in Uvalde.

I would suspect folks would be equally as furious with the way Rob elementary school officials/teachers failed with locking/maintaining doors locked. I have yet to see anyone speak on tbh as to this. Perhaps I missed it. it’s clear in the most recent report from the committee that there was grave failure in maintaining secure entries to both outside doors as well as classroom doors.

Nobody trolls a TBH forum. Some of you just get triggered so quickly you have to judge/insult the poster while ignoring what they actually say.
