If you think R's can't be liberals, you are behind the 8 ball.

2nd this. I may not agree with all on your list, but there is a huge increase in outdoor activities outside of hunting that should be included in the funding of conservation. However, I'd rather PR stay the way it is than go away.

I personally don't think this bill is going anywhere. But I am calling my congressman today to tell him my thoughts.

          All,

I reached out to TRCP (They lobby for support of conservation i.e. Pittman Robertson) to get their take on the HR. Here is their response to this bill:

"Nutty is a polite description of the bill. You can guess where TRCP and the broader conservation community stands on it, and we’ve been pretty vocal in reaching out to offices that have cosponsored and expressing our concern. It sounds like a lot of the cosponsors didn’t realize the implications to conservation when they signed on and saw it as a messaging tool against the gun control bill that was being considered in the House at the time. Rep. Clyde also told GOP colleagues that he had the support of the Hunt/Fish community, which is patently false. We joined the attached America’s Wildlife Conservation Partners letter to committee leadership that sends a pretty strong message, and includes sign-on from the NRA and NSSF. Gun Owners of America are really on an island on this issue.

Fortunately, it’s not going anywhere fast. Neither House or Senate committee will be taking it up this Congress, and we’re confident that the significant outreach effort we’ve got underway will dissuade members from jumping on board again when the new Congress begins in January. Nonetheless, it’s concerning that members are even thinking this way (and that over 50 Republicans thought it was a good idea!)

Happy to discuss further if you’d like."

My opinion is that it sounds like it is going nowhere, and was started on empty promises from Rep. Clyde.

If you are interested in lobbying groups that use their power for the hunting community (In my opinion using their power for good), I highly recommend TRCP. I've met the President and a couple other upper level positions, and they are all great people working hard to fund conservation and the challenges associated with it.

I had asked about this last week. In case you missed the post:
Please post political and non-hunting current events to this forum. Personal attacks and disrespect in posting will not be tolerated.

Thanks, your post was the one I saw before reaching out to TRCP. Appreciate the heads up!
