Both horrible situations that law enforcement made a "business decision" not to interfere with. This is not a new problem. Excerpts below.

In 2005, Jessica Gonzales sued Castle Rock, Colorado police for failing to arrest her husband, who had violated a protective order, resulting in the murder of her three children. Her case went to the U.S. Supreme Court in The Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales, where she lost because even though the order required arresting her husband upon violation, then-Justice Antonin Scalia successfully argued that “a well-established tradition of police discretion has long coexisted with apparently mandatory arrest statutes.”

This case builds upon Supreme Court precedent in Deshaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services (1989). In that case, a young boy was repeatedly abused at the hands of his father, something that county Social Services was aware of, but made no effort to remove the child. His mother sued once the four-year old entered a vegetative state, and the Court ruled that that the state did not have a special obligation to protect a citizen against harms it did not create.
That is not what the rulings said.

There is no United States Constitution guarantee for personal protection.

A state can absolutely give requirements and mandatory actions to police officers and other government officials and they do. Texas has limited but some requirements but that is a 10th alAmendment state rights issue.

Can you point to a section of the Constitution that demands government protection for individuals?

Why is nobody interested in addressing my comments about the carnage in Chicago & the like?? You have teens killing teens daily where firearms are all but illegal & now more gun control for the nation will work??

Again, what new gun control laws will fix Chicago??

Why are folks so eager to give up their liberties for perceived safety??
You see the mayor of Chicago got offended by Abbott pointing that wonderful city out as the prime example of how gun control does not work

Never said there was one. I'm simply pointing out that people seem to think the police are always going to do their utmost to protect citizens when that is not what they are mandated to do. There are a lot of ****** cops that wouldn't have hesitated Tuesday morning, but that's not who got to the scene first unfortunately. People are mixing up a moral obligation with an actual obligation. Don't think cops are the answer to this, communities are.

Why are you girls arguing among yourselves? There has been conflicting news reports, even among law enforcement. Why not wait until all of the rumored or actual statements have been verified?

The narrative that Chicago has the toughest gun laws and the highest amount of gun crime is pretty outdated I think. Chicago's handgun ban was struck down by the supreme court in 2008. Certainly their laws are a lot more restrictive than Texas' but there are other places that are much stricter. Also, while maybe it used to be worse, Chicago is outside the top 25 for murder rates of major cities. It seems like everyone is referring back to data from the first Obama administration, but a lot has changed since that time. We need more up to date arguments as to why increased gun control won't work.

Yup, she sees approximately the same equivalent of deaths every weekend as Uvalde had...The only solution is obviously more gun control.

It's been mentioned repeatedly, but we have sent more than $60 Billion dollars to Ukraine for kick backs to politicians...I saw on the Fox ticker that there are approximately 139k schools K-12, but we have no money to harden schools.

                  It’s still a perfect example

2021 Ends as Chicago's Deadliest Year in a Quarter Century

Chicago, as it has in previous years, ended 2021 with more homicides than any other city in the United States

The year of 2021 ended as one of the most violent on record in Chicago, as a rise in the number of shootings left more people dead than in any single year in a quarter century, according to statistics released by the police department on Saturday.

That's not what we do here!

And I think a city way closer than Chicago has a higher murder rate

                        11:28 arrived at school
11:30 first shots fired outside of school
11:40 shooter entered school un impeded
                        11:44 first officers arrived
12:40 border patrol arrives and dispatches shooter.

1 hour and 10 minutes between 1st shots fired and resolution. This is disturbing! Videos and witness accounts seem to corroborate!

You need to compare murder rate not just total number of murders since Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the US. (By the way New York and Los Angeles the number 1 and 2 most populous cities, have a much lower murder rate than Chicago, but also much tougher gun laws).

Unlocked, unguarded school. This day and age I can't believe the unlocked doors. Teacher who sacrificed her life for her students husband just died today from a heart attack. 4 more kids now orphaned. Waited 40 minutes for swat to show up after he entered school. Sad day for Texas all around.

I understand but The point is they have very strict gun laws and lots of people are still dying

The Big Apple is on pace to hit nearly 500 murders before the close of 2021 — a bleak milestone not seen in a decade.

As of Sunday — and with five days left on the year — the NYPD has recorded 479 slayings, driven by a startling surge in gun violence across the city, data shows.
