    "The Universe 25" experiment..

An interesting experiment... Judging by what I see happening in today's society, Calhoun was on to something..

“The "Universe 25" experiment is one of the most terrifying experiments in the history of science, which, through the behavior of a colony of mice, is an attempt by scientists to explain human societies. The idea of "Universe 25" Came from the American scientist John Calhoun, who created an "ideal world" in which hundreds of mice would live and reproduce. More specifically, Calhoun built the so-called "Paradise of Mice", a specially designed space where rodents had Abundance of food and water, as well as a large living space. In the beginning, he placed four pairs of mice that in a short time began to reproduce, resulting in their population growing rapidly. However, after 315 days their reproduction began to decrease significantly. When the number of rodents reached 600, a hierarchy was formed between them and then the so-called "wretches" appeared. The larger rodents began to attack the group, with the result that many males begin to "collapse" psychologically. As a result, the females did not protect themselves and in turn became aggressive towards their young. As time went on, the females showed more and more aggressive behavior, isolation elements and lack of reproductive mood. There was a low birth rate and, at the same time, an increase in mortality in younger rodents. Then, a new class of male rodents appeared, the so-called "beautiful mice". They refused to mate with the females or to "fight" for their space. All they cared about was food and sleep. At one point, "beautiful males" and "isolated females" made up the majority of the population. According to Calhoun, the death phase consisted of two stages: the "first death" and "second death." The former was characterized by the loss of purpose in life beyond mere existence — no desire to mate, raise young or establish a role within society. As time went on, juvenile mortality reached 100% and reproduction reached zero. Among the endangered mice, homosexuality was observed and, at the same time, cannibalism increased, despite the fact that there was plenty of food. Two years after the start of the experiment, the last baby of the colony was born. By 1973, he had killed the last mouse in the Universe 25. John Calhoun repeated the same experiment 25 more times, and each time the result was the same.
Calhoun's scientific work has been used as a model for interpreting social collapse, and his research serves as a focal point for the study of urban sociology.

We are currently witnessing direct parallels in today’s society..weak, feminized men with little to no skills and no protection instincts, and overly agitated and aggressive females with no maternal instincts.”

You can see a lot of that in society today for sure.

Very interesting. I read a lot on men's issues and problems we face. So much is being written now about the adolescent to early 20's group and their lack of motivation. Motivation to work, go to school, chase women, get in trouble, etc. Those activities and mistakes that eventually teach you the lessons to become a man.

I know multiple people with sons in the 16-20 range that don't drive. Not that they can't, just have no interest. They would rather ask mom for a ride so they can play their Nintendo Switch on the way.

"weak, feminized men with little to no skills and no protection instincts, and overly agitated and aggressive females with no maternal instincts.” This couldn't be any more spot on and the reason we're at this point isn't changing any time soon.

I see this same thing that you just described myself in many young men. No doubt there is a very strange new culture emerging in areas of this country.. Especially in highly populated areas. Big cities and towns.. I don't see this much in kids that are raised in the country around here.
I hunt in Nebraska and those farm kids up there are up before daylight, DOING CHORES, and they are driving at 14 years old.. I love going up there. It's like stepping back in time!!! Way back..

I have heard this also. Today's young men not caring about cars, mobility, freedom, and everything else that cars represent is simply astonishing. Not only a profoundly disturbing indicator of culture shift but also a very concerning outlook for a large sector of the U.S. economy. How much economic activity is related to vehicle ownership by young adults, hotrodding, racing, customizing, etc.

When I was in high school, getting your own vehicle was a very important rite of passage. Every kid wanted some kind of vehicle, even a ragged out beater, just to have mobility, to get to a part-time job, hang out with friends, and get their girlfriends in the backseat.

                What is happening here?

Yep.. Chasing girls and working was the #1 and #2 reasons me and all of my buddy's couldn't wait to drive back in the 80's... Heck many of us were driving at 15.. Chasing girls and working both seem to be rapidly dying desires these days.. It is strange..
                  Eerily resembling this mice behavior!!

                    Maybe it's this:

Traditional ideas about manhood are getting a shakeup as today’s lower-androgen men grapple with both physiological and social change.

I guess it is all somewhat intertwined, as the Forbes article kind of states, but to me a lot of it stems from the ease with which comfort is obtained or available and the over abundance of entertainment choices available now. Especially entertainment that does not involve physical exertion. I guess that kind of correlates to the experiment with the mice though.

I teach and coach. The number of boys who fit the bill as stated above is astounding. I ask more and more kids every year "why don't you have your drivers license or get a job?"
The most common response is an apathetic "I don't know" or an "I don't really want to drive yet."
BLOWS MY MIND!!! I have a summer birthday and was standing at the DPS at 8am on my 16th birthday to take my test and get my share of the freedom of the road!!
Scary times ahead for our society!

Ah a coach.. I'm glad you chimed in.. What blows my mind is how many BIG boys there are in High School these days that do not play football.. They are lumber jack big with 0 killer instinct.. I don't mean the serial killer type but just natural big boy aggression. Just giant wussy's.. Back to the low T thing I guess..
Man in the 80's if you were big you played football.. It just what they did because they wanted to slightly hurt people.
                              Do you see this also?
