My wife and MIL think that neither I nor our daughter can live without electronics in our hand so I challenged our daughter to not use any hand held electronic devices for a day. It was like taking coffee away from an addict for her. It ended up being a VERY good learning experience for her.
For me, I use electronics as a distraction. With having adult ADD and Parkinson’s disease, if I don’t have something to keep myself mentally stimulated then I end up doing a lot of physical things to keep myself busy, which exacerbate my Parkinson’s symptoms and makes me a bear to deal with in the evenings. It is hard trying to get a 6 year old kid to understand this. So I lead by example in showing and telling her when it is ok to be on an electronic device and when it’s not ok.

Technology has provided some great advancements for humanity. Unfortunately, we as humans can take the greatest of creation and turn them into a vice.
Just as most successful folks have realized that without a budget living financially sound is impossible. We must budget the time we invest with our heads sunk technology.
I to struggle but will be lowering screen time this year.

We humans lived for hundreds of thousands of years in closed tribes. Its the way we evolved to exist. In what is a hair of a blip on the radar we were closely connected by TV and we werent ready, it caused much tribal division to rear its head. Then in the last decade the entire world was connected into one tribe via Twitter/Facebook and there is a serious glitch going on now in the collective mind of humanity. Individually we are mostly intelligent and sane. All together we are mentally sick and it may just end humanity at some point. Out brains are not evolved enough to hand the technology. It will kill us in the end. "None of us is as dumb as all of us." We like to think we are the apex of creation but we are just cells of a larger organism. Organism earth and this organism right now is manic, suicidal, homicidal, and absolutely dangerous.
Read the Medium is the Massage from the 1960s talking about TV and the see the parallels that are occurring now although exponentially exacerbated. It can be read in an hour or two.
If you have a good amount of time read this and you will understand our psychological evolution and why we act the way we do in groups, genocide, constant wars, and other mob behaviors. The Ghost in the Machine.

It is interesting that you bring up the digital divide. I read an article recently that spoke of this phenomenon. It was interesting to me because it spoke of split generations, those born right at the change of generational guards that share the qualities of both generations. I was born in Feb of 1980 so am considered a "Gennexial" or "Xenial". I have one foot in Gen X and the other in Y (millennials). The cool advantage of being in this group is that my entire childhood was rooted in the normal natural world. The internet didn't really kick off until HS ended so we have the advantage that we were young enough to embrace the technology when it arrived and at the same time had a child hood without it so we are well grounded and not psychologically dependent on the technology like Millennials and Zoomers.
Now of course with that said, to your point anyone can become psychologically conditioned to become dependent on the "brilliance" (algorithms) that controls so many of us now. I have removed Safari off of my phone so that if I need to access the internet (usually for personal research or this place) I must go through the motions of opening up my laptop. This extra step often sparks logic in my mind that it really isnt that important anyway and I have better things to do with my time so I just stop right there and go do something meaningful. I also a long time ago deleted all algorithmic social media.

I will say I look at my phone a few hundred times a day. A lot for work and a lot with what amounts to wasting time. I don't play games on it or peruse facebook. I just have a lot of random questions running through my mind that I can find the answers to immediately. I've made it a point to use it very little once I'm at home after work.
Wife asked me one time if my phone is more interesting than her. I said, you mean this device that holds all the worlds knowledge at the touch of a button? Of course it's not honey

A very interesting Rogan video..
Parents regularly handing their 1 yr olds a phone to play with should be shot. Ditto for those that use a tablet to babysit their 2-5 yr olds. Sickens me to see a family out to dinner and everyone is on a device of sorts without a word spoken between them.
