Congress approved I-14 thru San Angelo, touting this will lead to expansion to San Angelo by attracting more business.
Didn't San Angelo lake just all but dry up?
Will not more business, more people mean more water usage?
    More highways more gasoline.
Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with San Angelo getting new hiway.
It just seems contradictory to the Dems agenda.

I wonder if this is a racist highway?

      Why are highways racist?
      I thought it was railroads.
At least that’s what I heard all my life.
Depends on which side of the tracks you live on!!!

At this point, I'm ok with removing interstates, not repairing or adding. Stop the migration of out of staters to texas. Dont give the drug and human traffickers a corridor. Deter globalism manufacturing and bring it closer to home. Secure a local supply chain. I can think of reasons all day to remove the federal interstate system from texas. Change my mind. Lol

Yes, San Angelo really isn't all that short on water resources though.

They pull from 5 different lakes: OH Ivie, Lake Nasworthy, Twin Buttes, Lake Spence, and OC Fisher.

Like the ol famous Tx saying “ you might as well lay back and enjoy it because there isn’t anything you can do about it.”

San Angelo used to pull from Spence, but no longer can due to crumbling pipeline. O.C. Fisher very seldom carries more than 10% capacity and Nasworthy is essentially just another constant level pool of Twin Buttes (water is released from twin buttes daily/weekly to maintain Nasworthy's constant level of only 8500 acre feet). Twin Buttes over the past 30 years spends more time below 20% capacity than it does at above 50%. That being said, Ivie is vital to San Angelo's water needs as it is to several other communities in west Texas. Another 2011 level drought and a population boom could very likely put us back into the same position we were in not too long ago - down to a 6 month water supply. A pipeline to the Hickory Aquifor east of San Angelo has also been added since then to supplement.
Not a fan of the interstate for this reason among others- growth is not always a good thing. I like my big-small town. Guess we'll adapt.

I doubt an interstate highway will cause huge growth to San Angelo or any other town along the route. It'll be nice to have a big highway to travel east/west on in between 20 and 10. But it will also hurt some of the small town businesses that benefit from current traffic that has to come through the middle of town. Once all the traffic is bypasses around town, some of those businesses will suffer.

The best thing about San Angelo is that there is no interstate, not happy about this. It's a wonderful place to live, work and raise kids and I don't think we need much more growth.

I’m not sure I agree, there are many places that shouldn’t exist but major roads contributed to growth.

True. There are examples of both. It can be a blessing or a curse.

Exactly. It's a paradigm shift in thought. We are conditioned to say growth is always good. Tap the breaks. Can we just secede from that idea and see if things get better? The way things are going now sucks.

This is my thought for now. If the other one ever gets approved that runs from laredo then up 277 then it will be bad for us
