    Texas SB15 - Virtual Learning

Summary (2021-09-09) Relating to virtual and off-campus electronic instruction at a public school, the satisfaction of teacher certification requirements through an internship teaching certain virtual courses, and the allotment for certain special-purpose school districts under the Foundation School

So Abbott is moving away from 100% in person learning and is looking to push funds to virtual learning via SB15.

Could this be a sign of more things to come? No more hard stance on anti-mask mandates? Vaccinations???

Virtual learning for most kids are a bad thing. This is because unlike in person learning, there is no accountability in most cases. Parents could care less what their kids are doing as long as they are passing(for the most part).

This is my wife’s 18th year in education. Last year and this year she and every other teacher are seeing most kids that are now 1-2 years behind with where they should be. For the most part, kids that were remote learning are all the ones that are behind.

There are some exceptions to this, but by far most kids that have done remote learning are now behind. The more remote learning that occurs, the worse off the kids are going to be when they get out of school.

Im good with it- Take the kids that are cowards and parents dont want then around other children and let them be hermits. Takes the snowflake parents out of meetings and puts active children in classrooms. Think about it- Most of the parents and kids that will stay at home are often the distractions and cases we have tip-toe around because of hurt feelings.

Virtual learning does not work for kids nor adolescents...ask any teacher out there.

Our kids are dumber and what passes for teaching worse than at any time in the recent 50years.

But dumb people can be cohorced into following easier.

I'm for this. Not to mention these are usually the same kids/parents who our education system has been forced to "accommodate" i.e. lower the standards for by teaching to the lowest common denominator.

If you're gonna draw line in the sand and say no mask mandates and no accomodations but then turn around and use taxpayer dollars on said accomodations do you have a spine?

You need to warm up a little with all that stretching your doing you are gonna pull a muscle.

Unlike you and your views, there still needs to be an option. Here is a perfect example. My son has a good friend who is an athlete in high school. The kid is staying home and learning virtually for the safety of his guardians which are his older grandparents. So he is not playing sports and is learning virtually. Should he not have that choice?

Nailed it. The education system is about anything but learning.

No, he should have to go to school like everyone else. Does he do the same thing or has he done the same thing during flu season?

Yeah I don't think it's fair to sacrifice the future of a child for a little extra insurance for the grandparents. It's not like they can't get a vaccine. Somehow recently it became ok to sacrifice our children's future so we can all feel safe from catching a cold.

This has been one of the more sickening things that came from this virus.

My grandparents half starved during the depression and then as teens went to go die somewhere half way around the globe so that future generations could survive as free Americans.

Their children and grandchildren, not all of them but way too many would see future generations injected with experimental drugs so that they could make it another year or two in their 80's or 90's. They had their chance, their life, and now they are fine with destroying the lives of children so that they can live forever. It disgusts me. Risk the new generation's health, throw away their education and their freedoms in exchange for another year of life. Sick. My ethos paradigm does not understand this schism.

Should we not have a choice! Both of my kids in high school now said they were going no matter what and not wearing mask. I don’t see the big deal really, if a kid does not fit in or has issues then why can’t they learn virtually. Just like stupid mask if a kid wants to wear one then good for him.
