    Flu?

Been thinking lately about the flu. I said to my wife it's amazing you don't hear about it at all.

This time of the year flu rises with kids going back to school. Similar seasonality as to what we’ve seen with covid.

Does anyone ever test positive for it? Could COVID be a flu strain that they allow to go untreated? Does anyone take tamilfu anymore?

Pulled this directly from the CDC website:

“2020-21 Flu Season Summary FAQ Summary

What was the 2020-2021 flu season like?

Flu activity was unusually low throughout the 2020-2021 flu season both in the United States and globally, despite high levels of testing. During September 28, 2020–May 22, 2021 in the United States, 1,675 (0.2%) of 818,939 respiratory specimens tested by U.S. clinical laboratories were positive for an influenza virus. The low level of flu activity during this past season contributed to dramatically fewer flu illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths compared with previous flu seasons. For comparison, during the last three seasons before the pandemic, the proportion of respiratory specimens testing positive for influenza peaked between 26.2% and 30.3%. In terms of hospitalizations, the cumulative rate of laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated hospitalizations in the 2020-2021 season was the lowest recorded since this type of data collection began in 2005. For pediatric deaths, CDC received one report of a pediatric flu death in a child during the 2020–2021 flu season. Since flu deaths in children became nationally notifiable in 2004, reported flu deaths in children had previously ranged from a low of 37 (during 2011-2012) to a high of 199 (during 2019-2020).”

0.2% last year as positive specimens, and typically 26.2%-30.3% (last three years).

1 child flu death when it’s usually 37-199.

    Give me a break!

Seems like they just allowed flu to run rampant/untreated under the guise of a pandemic.

There were plenty of flu deaths but they lumped them with covid.

    See the pattern?

      According to lung.org:

Influenza is a common cause of pneumonia, especially among younger children, the elderly, pregnant women, or those with certain chronic health conditions or who live in a nursing home. Most cases of flu never lead to pneumonia, but those that do tend to be more severe and deadly.

Flu , norovirse , and lesser viruses are still rocking, the COVID-19 just gets the attention because of the mass hysteria

Last year they were saying that flu cases were down because of mask wearing and social distancing. But I think it is due to what y'all have said, either flu cases are being lumped in with Covid cases or they cannot tell the difference well enough.

I feel most Flu cases are generated from close gatherings, poor hygiene, & routine hand to face contact.
With the Covid scare & new protocols, people are being more cautious about large gatherings, shaking hands, the surfaces they touch, & areas of mass transit.
So I guess we as a society have minimized the possibilities of exposure to common Influenza viruses.

Rocking? Really? All data points to the opposite, at least regarding the flu

                  What data?

So both are corona viruses that are very close in structure, respiratory type viruses that spread the exact same way but only 1 (the political one) is spreading but the other isn't?

So covid is spreading because people won't wear their masks or distance but flu is down because people wear their masks and are distancing??

I dunno… he is the one that said it was rocking along and presented no data…. Just figured I would respond in kind and refute without providing facts.

Isn’t this how we debate in 2021???

Yes, according to the liberal mindset, this is exactly what happens. It just depends on which narrative they want to push, or what CNN news person they are watching. Remember, the truth is now relative.

I think it goes beyond that
It’s not a one size fits all for all viral transmission & invasion
They differ in structure, active site & bind differently to receptor sites in terms of cell invasion & how efficient they bind & uptake

It's because influenza bounces off the little paper mask's force field but coronavirus is able to penetrate the little paper mask's force field. Wait, why are we wearing masks again?
